Is The Chaos In The World Making You Feel Powerless?

I am not a news watcher.

I learned that watching the news leaves me feeling disempowered and helpless. I do stay informed traditionally through alternative news sites and being on social media for work there is no way to avoid “the news.”

The world can seem like a very unsafe place right now. If you are in the U.S., you have witnessed an election process that has been like no other — more like a circus than a process to find a new inspirational leader; the failing health care system; the age of mortality going down for the first time in history; the education system teaching our kids common core skills but not life skills; racism and sexism; questioning the police who we are supposed to unconditionally trust with our lives; failing infrastructure of bridges, tunnels, etc.; our foods being poisoned with chemicals; and so many homeless and other people struggling to make a living.

Wow just typing all that felt very heavy and that was a partial list! If I were to sit in the worry of even one of those above mentioned problems, I would probably find myself with the covers pulled over my head rocking in some kind of pain.

Even if we avoid actively watching the news, we feel this turmoil.

So many things need to change and the world is reflecting that. Energies are spinning and our inner lives tend to mirror our outer life. UNLESS we take control of our inner world and set intentions that will reflect the outer. It is important to note that there is no reward to the powers that be if we all suddenly wake up and are empowered to live our best lives. It is in some people’s best interest to keep us eating foods that get us sick, staying on medications that numb us and give us other symptoms as we don’t question any authority, but rather fall in line feeling helpless and disempowered.

This might all sound pretty depressing and if you are a reader of my normal writing you know I don’t do depressing. I choose to stay in the light — and as quickly as I delved into that darkness — I am running to the light in this post. It’s just plain icky there!

With this energy of rapid change, we all have a wonderful opportunity in our lives. However, we feel stuck. Whatever pattern has shown up, whatever relationship needs work, whichever reality we need to change in our lives right now to be happier — we are being supported by these energies to do just that.

Step away from the news and step into some meditative time with yourself. Turn off Facebook, all social media and turn on either some quiet music, white noise or if you can get the world around you completely quiet and go out into nature — even better. I want you to ask yourself what you can work on in your life right now that needs some attention and change. Is it a relationship that is toxic in some way (friendship, family member, significant other, etc)? Is it that you are unhappy in your job but feel tied to it? Perhaps you have found yourself drinking, eating or numbing out with TV more than usual because the world seems so crazy right now.

The best thing you can do is tell yourself you love yourself enough to take some control back.

You know at soul level you want to be happy. You deserve to be happy. You will not let outside circumstances hold you back from your happiness. Empowered, you can perhaps do something to ignite some change in the world issues, but disempowered you will feel like you can’t even get out of bed in the morning.

It begins with you proving to yourself you are not powerless. It begins with you looking at one aspect of your life — and for now — make it even a small one you are willing to address.

Is it something you need help with and need to find the bravery within to ask for help with? We know how much we love helping someone else — there is no shame in asking — it is an act of strength to ask.

Do you need to make a list of other things you can do when you feel like numbing out? Perhaps go for a walk, call a friend, blast your favorite song and sing or dance along, make yourself a cup of tea, tell yourself you are going to help instead of sabotage yourself in that moment?

We all have the power in every second to decide whether or not we feel like the powerful creator of our life or if we feel like a victim. We all can reach out for help, tools, guidance and love. We are all going through this time of rapid change and we are seeing people riding the waves and others crashing badly around us. You get to choose what you want your life to look like from this moment forward. You get to look at what you need to change in your life either with harsh self-criticism or with the love you would offer to a close friend or loved one. You get to choose your inner dialogue and actions once you decide to become aware of them.

I went from over six years of chronic pain and disease and being told I would never dance again to living a life filled with love, pain-free, enjoying close relationships with my kids and friends and the most amazing love relationship of my life. I realized my childhood dream of becoming a published author and getting to teach others how to live the life of their dreams and heal from situations they thought impossible to overcome.

I know you can do this. Get quiet, listen to your inner wisdom — not your inner critic — ask for help, notice how you speak to yourself and others and decide to stand in love. It begins with you.

If we all begin to work on ourselves the outer world will change. We will become the powerful creators we need to bring the necessary changes to our outer world. We can change the world, but it begins with us and you knowing you can.

I am here to support you in whatever way possible and know there are many others out there that will do the same. Love yourself enough to take the first step and claim your inner power to change!

We all need you and your gifts! You are so loved!
